Catholic Charities is one of the two
charities that receive coats from the Walker Winter Coat Drive; the
other is the Coalition for Compassion and Justice.
This is the ninth year that Victoria has
gathered coats from the community. It’s hard to believe that in these
nine years 1,507 coats have been donated to these two organizations.
This year there were a total of 190 coats
gathered! This includes all adult coats, children’s coats and new
children’s coats. Victoria has a “Koats for Kids” fund that people can
contribute $20 to if they have emptied their closets of all unloved
coats. With this contribution new coats are purchased for children.
This has been a great community project and one that gives in many ways.
Besides donating coats folks can sign up to pledge $1 per coat to fund
the Salvation Army “Christmas Angel” program and the Catholic Charities’
“Project Hope” Thanksgiving Dinner $50 Fry’s gift cards. One coat sure
does a lot.
