Can Your Home Survive A Wildland Fire?
Assess Your Own Property (pdf)

Your WCAA Walker Firewise committee is constantly on the lookout for grant funding and other means to assist Walker property owners to help improve their properties for wildfire protection and to improve overall forest health.

Our Walker forest is currently overstocked as a result of natrural fire suppression for over 150 years. The result is our current unhealthy forest condition.

The Forest Service is doing their part. Do a search for "Hassayampa Restoration Project". This project is the reason for the trees marked with orange paint. Those are the trees to keep and not be removed.

As property owners, we must do our part to regain a healthier forest which will reduce the intensity of a wildland fire and reduce the likelyhood of a new full-scale bark beetle attact exacerbated by the current drought.

  2025/26 Title III Grant
A federal grant administered by Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management

Government funding for the 2025/26 Title III grant has been greatly reduced. This the funding source that has helped pay for our Walker Chip & Haul program in past years.

  CURRENT ACTIVE MITIGATION GRANT
HFI 23-353

On July 29, 2024, Walker Community Action Alliance (WCAA) received notification that it received a reimbusable grant of $162,528.00 to treat 70.64 acres within our community. Due to one large property owner withdrawing from the program, WCAA Firewise reduced our obligation by giving up 20 acres to another community. Our new goal is to treat 50.64 acres. This is a reimbursable grant with cap of $2,300.80 per acre treated.
Contact Walkerfirewise@gmail.com to see if your parcel qualifies. This grant is scheduled to end on March 31, 2026. There is still time to take advantage and plenty of money still available for reimbursements.
