WCAA Walker Firewise

THE WCAA FIREWISE 2025 CHIP & HAUL is OVER

Previous record was 37, 40-cubic yard containers

New record this year - 59, 40-cubic yard containers

Donations to Walker Community Action Alliance (WCAA) this year's for Chip and Haul exceeded our forecast, but so did the amount of vegetation and the cost of hauling chips.

WCAA Firewise was successful in obtaining a very reasonable disposal rate for wood chips. Zero disposal costs, a savings of at least $34,456.00 if we were forced to use a landfill.

WCAA was awarded a $5,125.00 Title III Grant from the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors for WCAA Firewise activities. The entire grant was used to help fund Chip and Haul this year.

Total WCAA hauling cost for this year's Chip and Haul is $19,801.50

Miscelleanus costs (timesheets and clip board) is $74.94

TOTAL PAID BY WCAA FOR 2025 CHIP & HAUL = $19,876.44

2360 cubic yards of wildfire fuel removed

(approximately 472 tons)

A huge THANK YOU to all who contributed to WCAA for this event! $11.040.73 after fees. Add additional $5,125.00 from the Title III Grant is $16,165.73.

WCAA donated the shortfall of $3,710.73.

Volunteer time/milage/expenses reported = $346,189.37

OUTSTANDING! - GOOD JOB WALKER!

You are the best in Yavapai County

Your WCAA Walker Firewise committee is constantly on the lookout for grant funding and other means to assist Walker property owners to help improve their properties for wildfire protection and to improve overall forest health.

Our Walker forest is currently overstocked as a result of natrural fire suppression for over 150 years. The result is our current unhealthy forest condition.

The Forest Service is doing their part. Do a search for "Hassayampa Restoration Project". This project is the reason for the trees marked with orange paint. Those are the trees to keep and not be removed.

As property owners, we must do our part to regain a healthier forest which will reduce the intensity of a wildland fire and reduce the likelyhood of a new full-scale bark beetle attact exacerbated by the current drought.
